About the Abandoned Fasa Cinema

Fasa Cinema
Abandoned doesn’t always mean destroyed; sometimes a fragment of the past still lives within it

The only cinema in Fasa, Iran, had been closed for 40 years due to government restrictions. Through our connections, we gained rare access to this untouched space and created a documentary, capturing its atmosphere with both photographs and film.

Our Creative Concern
For over 40 years, the city of Fasa has been without a cinema after its only one was forced to close. To watch a film, residents had to travel to larger cities — the nearest being a four-hour journey away.

The Solution
By revisiting this forgotten place and shedding light on its once-vibrant past, we hoped to awaken a sense of demand among the people of Fasa and encourage officials to consider building a new cinema for the city.

The Results
After the documentary was produced and shared, Fasa — after more than four decades — finally saw the return of a cinema.
